The third concert of the Agitation Hill Chamber Music Series on Sunday September 21st at 3pmwill feature wonderful musicians from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria and the University of Melbourne.

The concert is in the beautiful Anglican Church Castlemaine corner of Kennedy and Forest st.
The music for the program includes Beethoven and Mozart Quintets for piano and wind instruments.
Musicians are Josh De Graaf (oboe), Philip Arkinstall (clarinet), Jack Schiller (bassoon),Carla Blackwood (horn), and Elyane Laussade (piano).

Ticket prices are $40, $30 concession and students under 16 $10.

Two Grands… Four Hands is an electrifying showcase of superb piano arrangements performed on two grand pianos by two of Australia’s finest concert pianists, Elyane Laussade and William Schmidt.

Elyane, an internationally acclaimed pianist, has performed worldwide and been a guest soloist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra numerous times. Originally from the USA, she trained at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music in New York. In a wonderful twist of fate, Elyane discovered William Schmidt nearly two decades ago at an Eisteddfod, and he has since performed across Australia and Vienna.

Together, these extraordinary musicians present a spectacular program spanning Mozart, Debussy, Mancini, Bacharach, and even a whirlwind 90-second rendition of an entire Gilbert & Sullivan opera.

Adding to the magic, the performance also features the stunning vocals of international soprano Alison Jones, with the charismatic Chris McKenna as compère.

This second concert in the Agitation Hill Chamber Music Series will feature the wonderful Franz Schubert’s Piano Trio No 1in B Flat Major. Our resident chamber musician international pianist Elyane Laussade will be joined by outstanding violinist Miranda Carson (Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra) and cellist Luke Severn current music director of the Bendigo Symphony Orchestra and the Gisborne Singers. The main work on the program Schubert Piano Trio No 1 is a lively, buoyant work, with unrivalled lyricism throughout. Beautiful chamber music concert encores will complete the program.

On Saturday, February 15 at 3:00 PM, The Clinton Symphony Orchestra of the Mohawk Valley (CSOMV), in collaboration with Zion Episcopal Church, will present Elyane Laussade in a solo recital at the church, at 140 W. Liberty St., Rome. The program, titled “Fantasies and Dreams” includes music of Mozart, Schubert, Bach, Greenbaum, Faure, Liszt, and Verdi. All of the dreamy selections on the program are free-flowing compositions with an air of improvisational flair. The concert is a benefit for the Clinton Symphony Orchestra of Mohawk Valley, with free will donations gratefully accepted at the door.

The beautiful visual artist Corinne Loxton who hails from the Blue Mountains joins me in interpretations and evocations of nature’s elemental processes.

I will be playing a recital of selections that reflect the four elements – in the works of Chopin, Debussy, Ravel, Liszt, Sinding, Grieg, Chaminade, and De Falla – while Corinne’s artwork, inspired by these pieces, will be projected in a multimedia show for your simultaneous aural and visual pleasure.

A spirited burst of energy from Strauss’s Radetzky March kicks off this rousing program, from which follows an extraordinary exploration of the relationship between music and power.

Finding himself in the life-endangering displeasure of Stalin after his bold and inaccessible opera – the ‘muddle instead of music’ – Shostakovich was scrambling to get back into political favour. His fifth symphony did the trick: its optimistic fanfare finale and simple, sing-able melodies apparently patriotic enough to satisfy the Soviet agenda.

Worlds away from the grit of Shostakovich, Beethoven’s beloved fifth piano concerto – ‘The Emperor’ – casts off the grim Soviet shadow. Not without its own political embroilment, ‘The Emperor’ was once dedicated to Beethoven’s hero Napoleon Bonaparte, before Beethoven famously struck his name from the manuscript in disgust after he assumed the position of emperor.

Bringing her dazzling touch to this joyous work is acclaimed concert pianist Elyane Laussade. Elyane returns after numerous successful performances with the BSO to continue her Beethoven residency. This is the second instalment in a very treasured collaboration which sees Elyane perform all of the Beethoven piano concertos with BSO.

Brahms Piano Quintet with The Partridge String Quartet

Dear Friends and Music Lovers,

Oh. My. Goodness. How many of you know the Brahms Piano Quintet? I mean, really know it? It is my all-time favourite chamber work! I revisited it yesterday with the Partridge String Quartet for the first time since I played it with the Flinders Quartet nearly twenty years ago! We were having our first rehearsal for our upcoming concert in Castlemaine (3 pm September 10 at the Anglican Church), when we realised there was good news for those of you who cannot attend our performance that day. After moving the piano around until we found the best spot to fit the quartet, we discovered that between all of our schedules, we have ONE DATE for a concert at the Laussade Studio -not the usual three, sorry – in under four weeks on Sunday, September 24.

After spending an afternoon making music together, I can understand why Mana, Jos, Eunyce, and Daniel are so successful: they are not just wonderful musicians, they are also great to work with. You can click here to read more about this exciting group.

Although our program features the piano quintet, before I join the quartet for the Brahms, they will play a rousing work called Seraphita by Trey Spruance. I think you’ll enjoy its freshness!

P.S. Since I can only offer one date, I suspect these limited tickets will go quickly.
